Dubai Safari Tour & Detailed Reviews
For this Overnight Desert Safari Dubai, we were 2 and so we shared our 4 × 4 with other visitors. The driver-guide (very nice) found us at our hotel, and we drove a good thirty minutes on the road. Before reaching the desert (the traffic in Dubai is very dense).
Tip: The schedules in Dubai are … fluctuating! We were recovered with 15 minutes in advance, while the other passengers were recovered a little late. So plan a window of + or – 15 minutes from the schedule you have been given. If we pick you up first, take the place next to the driver (for the view) and then the places next to the windows (to be able to stand), even if you are in a relationship. If you stay stuck, you risk that one of you is in the middle place when other passengers will join you, and it’s quite uncomfortable.
Once in the desert, the driver slightly deflated the tires (to better adhere to the sand) and then had fun doing sudden acceleration and slippage when crossing the dunes. It must be confessed that it is rather funny and that it moves well! In any case, it is an unknown sensation because we were not familiar to driving like that in everyday life (unless we have a lot of sand on the road and we are not afraid of losing our allowed …). And if you do not like it, do not worry, the driver has constantly asked us if we want a more or less abrupt driving to make sure that it suits everyone. Small shadow on the board: there are still many cars that follow each other and we do not always feel in a wild place…
Before joining the camp, we made two stops of 10/15 minutes in the desert. The first offered a beautiful view of the dunes, while the second allowed to see a small camel farm (or rather a large enclosure …).
Tip: At the first stop you will have the most beautiful view of the desert of Dubai. Once at the camp, the dunes are indeed a little less beautiful and colorful (and sometimes invaded by a little vegetation). And you can see the road if you climb to the top of the dunes (Dubai remains Dubai …). If you want to take beautiful pictures and beautiful panoramas during this safari, take advantage of the first stop and get away from other visitors. You should be able to make some beautiful shots
Once at the camp, the 4 × 4 safari gives way to a free neighborhood! The camp is described as a Bedouin camp, but it is very clearly a tourist camp only for this activity. We did not expect too much to experience very authentically Dubai, so no surprise on that side or real disappointment. We arrived first at the camp (other cars with other travelers arrive later) and we were able to enjoy the activities offered on-site.
The atmosphere of the camp is really good!
Although there are a few people, we really enjoy the place and we do not get bored for a second. We did a (very) small tour in dromedary and a lot of sandboarding. It’s actually something similar to snowboarding, except that you use your board on sand rather than snow! It is an original sport, tiring (there is no chairlift …) but really funny (hello bowls!).
Tip: do not panic for activities, there will be for everyone! Most travelers started with the dromedary (the first visible activity), creating a queuing that recurs in sandboarding, and so on. On our side, we went directly to sandboarding (where there was only one traveler), before returning later to the camel where there were a few guests. It is, therefore, better to start with the activities proposed inside the camp and finish with the ones located outside;
Sunset in Dubai Desert:
Seeing the sunset on the desert of Dubai. We took some drinks and we are willingly away from the camp to better enjoy this moment. Afterward, we walked quietly around the camp, smoked sheesha and talked with other travelers, etc.
Tip: do not miss the sunset! Find a beautiful place to sit outside the camp, and enjoy the calm of this moment. To Book Desert Safari Dubai you can book with Dubai Elite Tours.
For the meal, it is a barbecue dinner where everyone will be served, and where the dishes are various and varied. Different vegetables and starchy foods we available, so there are no problems for vegetarians or those who eat hallal (we are in a Muslim country, do not forget). Then you could sit in the middle of cushions and around small tables installed in tents at ground level. Rather comfortable and nice! During the meal, several shows took place, especially with belly dancers, but we did not pay much attention.
Tip: The desert safari is a very popular activity in Dubai, but with good reflexes, you can easily avoid the crowd. When the buffet served, 80% of people queued while there will be for everyone. Better to enjoy a little stroll and enjoy the night scenery, before returning 10 to 15 minutes later to use.
At the end of the evening. We made the road in the opposite direction and the driver dropped us at our hotel. What we remember from this safari in Dubai? That is the freedom left at the camp and the diversity of activities possible. We were able to fully enjoy the landscapes of the desert and we keep a very good memory of this evening under the stars. This is a tourist activity, certainly, but it can clearly enjoy the way you want it. Nobody requires us to do anything throughout the tour. Not being fans of too organized outings, we really enjoyed this aspect.
Alternatives – Other excursions in the desert of Dubai
If you want to explore the desert of Dubai, there are also quad or buggy tours, or multi-day safaris. We did not test them, so we could not give you an opinion … A friend took part in a buggy tour and loved it! He advises not to be afraid of being hot and being covered with sand/dust.
